Shared Governance

The Shared Governance structure of the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Department of Nursing has been developed to provide professional nursing staff and management a means of participatory decision making in matters related to nursing practice and procedures as it relates to patient care issues. The emphasis of this shared governance structure is to promote professional accountability and responsibility in a collegial environment that promotes quality patient care outcomes.

The Nursing Leadership Council and the Unit-Based Coordinating Council are the legitimate forums for input into decision-making and recommendations regarding assigned patient care related activities in the Department of Nursing. They retain the accountability for the process and outcome of issues related to nursing practice, education, performance improvement, and staff interaction duties that are included in the purview of the participative decision process.

The Nursing Leadership Council can request feedback or resolution of issues, or make decisions that directly impact the other five committees. The Nursing Leadership Council provides leadership, assistance, support, and final approval of committee or Unit-Based Council recommendations.
